March Retrospective

Well, I think it’s fair to say the experiment with a publishing schedule through March did not accomplish much. As I mentioned in that planning post there are plenty of things going on that make more urgent demands than this blog. Commitments made to the aether are simply not as compelling as those made to actual humans I see regularly.

began to write a number of posts that I never published, telling myself that I would have to come back and edit them before they were good enough to put up. And I was going to outline those posts here as somehow proof of the work that I’ve done. But that doesn’t really help anyone. Instead I think I’ll just go finish those posts.

One thing I will mention here though is that I have been listening to a Great Course through Audible, Building Great Sentences, as lectured by Brooks Landon from the University of Iowa. It’s a grammatically technical discussion of forming long, complex sentences. My instincts have always been towards, what I charitably call, ‘minimalism’ but the actual effect on my writing would more accurately be called ‘constipated’.

So thinking about how to elaborate on the snippets of thought I give away has been very interesting and perhaps has already helped my writing, opening it up and allowing it – and the reader – to breath.
